A drug for treating diabetic nephrosis contains rhein or its salt. It may prepare aqueous solution or capsule for oral, such dosage is not more than 200 mg/day. Toxicity of rhein or its salt is lower, LD50 is 3.2 g/kg. 24 hr. after administering rhein by oral, the level of blood concentration is still higher. It is effective for controlling or decreasing blood sugar of rat with diabetes, and controlling or remitting the condition of renal hypertrophy, and clearly decreasing the index of kidney. It can clearly decrease the excurrent amount of urinary albumin of patient with diabetes.
