PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for a biological membrane, a water purifying apparatus and a seaweed bed low in production cost, high in the tensile elonga tion of obtained fibers, good in fiber processability, showing excellent micro organism fixing properties and capable of easily separating a fixed microorgan ism from fibers. SOLUTION: A carrier for a biological membrane composed of oxide fibers with a bonded oxygen content of 4-15 wt.% obtained by oxidizing acrylic fibers or carbonaceous fibers with a bonded oxygen content of above 2 wt.% obtained by carbonizing oxide fibers is inexpensive, high in tensile elongation and excellent in processability and well bonds a organism such as a microorganism in water to propagate and fix the same. Therefore, the carrier for the biological membrane can be used in a water purifying apparatus or a seaweed bed and the organism fixed to the carrier for the biological membrane is separated to be used as feed and fertilizer.
