The invention relates to a current measuring element comprising a current carrying conductor (12) having the shape of a flat rail in an insulating housing (10) and a hall sensor (42) which is arranged in the proximity of said conductor (12). The current carrying conductor (12) is bent to form u-shaped conductor loop (14) in the area of the hall sensor (42) and the hall sensor (42) is situated on a board (40) which is arranged in the u-shaped conductor loop (14). The board (40) containing the hall sensor (42) is placed upon a main board (30) on which the signal from the hall sensor is processed. An insulating cover (20) provided for the housing (10) is arranged between the housing (10) containing the current carrying conductor (12) and the main board (30). Said cover comprises an insulating compartment (22) which extends inside the conductor loop (14) and receives the board (40) containing the hall sensor (42).
