A screening seal for electrical equipment is made by coating a base seal of polyurethane foam with a liquid varnish containing a synthetic resin binder, a metal powder and a solvent which is then evaporated to produce a hardened, elastic, conductive surface coating. A screening seal for electrical equipment, components, casings, boxes etc., comprising an elastic base seal, especially of polyurethane foam, with an electrically conductive, elastic surface coating made by applying a liquid conductive varnish containing a soluble synthetic resin binder or suitable resin mixture and metal powder in a weight ratio of (0.5:1)-(5:1), in a solvent which is then evaporated to produce the hardened coating.
