The protective device can be pulled out from a roller to produce a corrugated surface sector with the corrugation-side endface against the roller and has a batten on the free end.The surface sector (7a-7c) is elastically deformable. In the unstressed state, the surface sector has a curvature matching that of the windscreen (2). This curvature is continued over the entire width of the surface sector running transversely to the pulling-out direction, and over the entire length of the surface sector.
