<p>A method and a furnace for melting a solid material to forman elecrocast product, including at least two electrodes (4, 5).According to the method, the melting process is started bycontacting the tops (13) of the electrodes (4, 5) with said solidmaterial (23) to be melted while holding the electrodes closeenough together to enable an electric current to flowtherebetween, an electric arc is then generated between saidelectrodes to melt the solid material adjacent the tops (13) ofthe electrodes (4, 5), and said tops are subsequently graduallymoved apart without breaking the contact with the material orcutting off the current flow between the electrodes.</p> |
