PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new optically active metallocene (hafnocene) compound containing specific ethylene bistetrahydroindenyl groups, useful as an asymmetric polymerization catalyst, a reagent for organic syntheses, a catalyst for organic syntheses, and the like. SOLUTION: An optically active metallocene compound of formula I or formula II (R<1> groups are each a halogen, 6-20C aryloxy, or amino substituted by a 1-15C hydrocarbon group and/or 6-15C aryl group; when R<1> groups are each the group except the halogen, R<1> groups are bound to each other to form a ring containing the hafnium atom) [e.g. optically active ethylenebis(4,5,6,7- tetrahydro-1-indenyl)hafnium biphenolate]. The compound of formula I or II is useful as a catalyst for asymmetric polymerization, reagent for organic syntheses, catalyst for organic syntheses, and the like. The compound of formula I or II is obtained by mixing the solution of 2,2'-biphenol with the solution of n-butyllithium and subsequently subjecting the reaction product to an optical resolution treatment. |
