PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new stereoisomeric indole compound having physiological activities such as lipid peroxidation suppressing activity and utilizable as pharmaceuticals and cosmetic materials, etc. SOLUTION: This stereoisomeric indole compound is expressed by formula I [X is a 1-5C alkyl which may be substituted with OH, COOH, benzyl, etc.; R is H, an alkyl, an aralkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryl, a univalent metal, etc.; R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl, an aralkyl, a cycloalkyl or aryl; * represents asymmetric carbon atom] or its salt, e.g. (1"S,3"S)-indole of formula II. The compound of the formula I can be produced by condensing L-tryptophan of formula III with a stereoisomeric α-amino acid of formula IV to obtain a compound of formula V and subjecting the compound to oxidative cyclization reaction to construct an oxazole ring at a stroke. |
