摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain a large attenuation quantity without exertion of influence on optical communication by installing semi-cylindrical lenses at the end faces of the optical fibers 14 of an exit side optical fiber array 12 and diminishing the spreading in the transverse direction of the exit light from the optical fibers. SOLUTION: The optical fibers 14 are formed as the exit side optical fiber array 12 where the optical fibers are lined up transversely to one row by interposing spacers 18 of 125μm in standard diameter and 125μm in width therebetween. The optical fibers 24 are also formed as an incident side optical fiber array 22 where the optical fibers are lined up transversely to one row by interposing spacers 28 of 125μm in standard diameter and 125μm in width therebetween. The cylindrical lenses 32 of 0.15 mm in the radius of the columnar faces are mounted at the end faces of the respective fibers 14 on the exit side. In such a case, the cylindrical lenses 32 of the same structure are mounted at the end faces of the optical fibers 24 on the incident side as well. As a result, even if the distance A between the arrays is made short, the erroneous incidence of the exit light 30 from the optical fibers 14 on the adjacent coated fibers of the incident side optical fiber array 11 does not arise and the optical attenuator having the desired attenuation quantity is obtd.
