PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of HCl in the thermal decomposition or burning of a chlorinated resin by compounding it with lithium carbonate, calcium carbonate and iron oxyhydroxide. SOLUTION: A chlorinated resin (e.g. PVC) is compounded with lithium carbonate pref. having a particle size of 10μm or lower, still pref. 2-10μm, calcium carbonate pref. having a particle size of 2μm or lower, still pref. 1-1.5μm, and iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) pref. having a particle size of 1μm or lower. Pref., lithium carbonate and calcium carbonate are compounded each at least in an amt. equimolar to Cl in the resin. Iron oxyhydroxide is compounded pref. in an amt. of 1-7 wt.% of the resin. Iron oxyhydroxide reacts rapidly with HCl to form a chlorine compd., which then reacts with lithium carbonate or calcium carbonate to form a stable compd. Hence, the compsn. obtd. as above hardly generates HCl in fire or when incinerated as a waste material.
