A fly fishing line (10) with a plurality of spaced apart bands (38) along a section (24) of the line visible to an angler (18). The bands (38) and the spacing between the bands (38) is such that they can be discerned in use by the angler (18). The bands (38) do not interfere with casting of the line (10) or with a leader (32) attached to the line (10) but can be watched by the angler (18) to see when the line (10) stops drifting or changes direction, indicating a fish strike, the bands (38) and the spacing between the bands serving as a strike indicator.
