Mobile subscriber logging-on method for cellular mobile communications system

The logging-on method uses the measured power level, transmission quality or timing-advance for selection of the base station, with the position coordinates of the mobile subscriber station determined for incorporation in the base station selection decision, to prevent selection of a base station which will soon be left by the mobile subscriber. The base station selection decision may be weighted in dependence on the travel velocity and travel direction of the mobile subscriber. The position coordinates of the mobile subscriber station may be provided via a GPS system.
