The trolley has tumble preventer (6,8) whose step grippers (73,75,87) move vertically relative to the trolley (1) between upper and lower steps round a connecting point on one arm of the trolley. They are assisted by a damper joined to the gripper to cushion the gripper as it moves relative the trolley. Wheels (4,5) fitted to the bottom part of the trolley body (2) have the gripper (73) to the rear at the distal end of the trolley arm defining the gripper movement. A second gripper (75) on a second arm to the front of the wheel (3) is pre-tensioned to space it from the floor when the trolley wheels are horizontal and is (75) similarly cushioned by the damper. The two front wheel grippers (73,75) are interlocked for coordinated movement and a third gripper for the rear wheel of the trolley is at the distal end of a third trolley arm served by a second damper for movement relative the trolley body (2). The two wheels (4,5) are spaced by many times the interval between the e.g. escalator steps. Additional components include the trolley handle (3) and indicator panel (11).
