The location monitoring device uses a central control and evaluation device in communication with transceivers (10) positioned at spaced points within the supermarket, in turn communicating with transceivers (7) attached to each supermarket trolley, for determining the location of each trolley within a supermarket area, upon transmission of interrogation and response signals.
