PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a vertically aligned high power output stack by an arrangement wherein a planar waveguide has individual first ends spaced apart in the lateral and vertical directions along the first edge of a substrate, and second ends aligned laterally on the second edge of the substrate. SOLUTION: An input waveguide has ends 12A, 12B and 12C aligned laterally and it can be coupled with a plurality of light source arrays while output waveguides 14A, 14B and 14C are aligned vertically in order to be coupled with a single fiber laser. A plurality of light sources 20-22 a linear array can be aligned with a plurality of ends 12A of individual waveguides. In order to facilitate coupling with the light source, a base of appropriate level can be provided at the input edge of a substrate so that the light source array is aligned with the input waveguide in the vertical direction. Similarly, a V- groove can be made in the output edge in order to align the fiber laser with a stack of output waveguides 14A, 14B and 14C. According to the arrangement, a vertically aligned high power output stack can be constituted. |
