The invention relates to a process for purifying a carbonate-based washing solution derived from washing transport containers. According to the invention, a part of the washing solution employed is mixed with lime and precipitated at a temperature of more than 43 degree C in order to prepare calcium carbonate in aragonite form. After that, a filter cake of the calcium carbonate in aragonite form is formed on a filtration bed 2 and the remainder of the washing solution is filtered through the filter cake 2. The aragonite crystals adsorb copious quantities of oil on their surface, with it being possible, using the filter layer which has been presented, to filter a quantity of waste water which is at least three times as great as the quantity which is required for producing the said prefiltration bed. <IMAGE>
