<p>The mechanism includes a one-way drive rotor (3) accommodated in a bore of a driving part (1) of the tool. The rotor is held by a shoulder (14) which is integral with the rotor and by an annular component (7) on which the head (34) of a central hollow screw (13) screwed into the rotor bears. The rotor is further equipped with an axial end fitting (5) having a duct (21) which opens onto its lateral surface (22) and in which a retainer ball (6) for holding the rotary tool is accommodated. A rod (9) disposed axially through the adjustment screw (13) and extending into the rotor through a duct (19) controls the retainer ball position. The rod can be displaced between a position for locking the rotary tool such as a drive socket in which the ball is blocked protruding out from the end fitting (5) and a release position in which the ball can be retracted.</p>
