<p>The invention concerns an apparatus for selecting a suitably dimensioned buttress for reconstruction of an annulus of a mitral valve. The apparatus comprises a segment member having a chord to arc length ratio of about 1:2, the chord length approximately relating to the maximum depth of the anterior mitral leaflet from its base to its commissure with the posterior mitral leaflet. Preferably, the chord length approximates twice the maximum depth of the anterior mitral leaflet. A series of such apparatus, of graduated chord length, are provided as a kit of parts to a cardiac surgeon for use in selecting a suitably dimensioned buttress for mitral valve reconstruction for the particular patient involved.</p> |
