It is claimed a ion-exchange membrane fuel cell comprising elementary cells, each including two bipolar plates (17), a membrane (22), two electrodes (20,21) in intimate contact with the membrane, two conductive current collectors and two gaskets (18). The bipolar plates are cooled along the periphery only by means of a cooling medium which flows through side windows (12) in the gaskets.
