Book bindings are introduced through parallel conveyor belts (26,27) to rotating blades (17,21) which make slits in the binding to take elastic band from a roll (1). The band is cut to length (16) and placed in the slits by the combined action of the rotated blades (17,21) and air suction channels. Fixing is completed by automatic gluing and rolling.
