PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a synthetic fiber treating agent for papermaking, capable of rapidly and uniformly dispersing synthetic fibers in a papermaking dispersing bath, by preparing an aqueous solution of a polyether polyester containing a specific structural unit. SOLUTION: This synthetic fiber treating agent is obtained by preparing 0.1-20 wt.% of an aqueous solution of a polyether polyester which comprises 15-40 wt.% a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (an ester-forming derivative) and a 4-22C, preferably 6-12C aliphatic dibasic acid (an ester-forming derivative) in the molar ratio of both the components of 65/35 to 35/65, 45-80 wt.%, of an N-polyoxyalkylene-N,N-dialkylamine, its salt or quaternized substance and 5-15 wt.% of a 2-6C alkylenediol and has 3,000-20,000 number-average molecular weight. Polyester-based fibers are coated with 0.03-3 wt.%, of the treating agent to give synthetic fibers for papermaking excellent in stability and uniform dispersibility even in the case of long fibers having >=10 mm fiber length. |
