A portable liquid crystal display, wherein a swinging stand provided on the rear of the case can be housed in a recess formed in a part of the case and a part of a cover of a battery housing to eliminate the unevenness on the rear of the case. When a notch is provided in the battery cover, it is possible to check if a battery is in the battery housing without opening the battery cover. Further, by changing the battery cover from a sliding type to one which swings in the direction in which the stand swings, the useless space between the battery cover and the battery can be eliminated, and the thickness of the battery cover can be reduced, so that the thickness of the device can be reduced. On the front of the case of this display, a recess for attaching a windshield around the window of the display is enlarged and a face plate is attached to the windshield for the display window protection to improve the value of the display. A frame-shaped protrusion contiguous to the recess around the display window is formed to cause the rear of the windshield to be attached airtight to the protrusion when the windshield is attached to the recess with an adhesive, thus protecting the display window from the invasion of dusts.
