Method of operating an airbag controller

The method involves performing a start-up procedure after switching on the control computer (2) voltage supply or following a reset command. The start-up procedure involves checking an identifier and setting it if it is not set. If it is detected that the identifier is already set, an error signal is generated and the identifier is reset when the control computer is deactivated. Part of the start-up program is omitted if the identifier is already set, esp. test routines for testing sensors and/or igniter capsule switches.
