PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glass product capable of effectively protecting the damage and staining of the surface of the glass product, free from the erosion of the surface with a protecting film, and not causing the dissolution of the protecting film even in a state generating dew drops by forming the water-soluble protecting coating film comprising urea on a glass surface. SOLUTION: This glass product is obtained by forming a water-soluble protecting coating film having a thickness of preferably 0.001-1000μm, more preferably 0.01-500μm, on one portion or all portions of a glass surface. The protecting film may be formed by applying an aqueous urea solution preferably having a concentration of 0.01-3 wt.% by a method such as a spraying method, a dipping method or a brush-coating method on one portion or all portions of a glass surface. Since the solubility of the protecting film in water is relatively low, the protecting film is kept over a long period, and is especially useful for a glass product such as a glass substrate for a flat panel display or a glass product for a cathode-ray tube.
