PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent lowering of cleaning efficiency of an NOX catalyst for purifying NOX contained in exhaust gas by enhancing durability of an SOX catalyst for adsorbing a sulfur component contained in exhaust gas in relation to an exhaust gas purification device. SOLUTION: The exhaust gas cleaning device is equipped with an NOX catalyst 6A provided in a passage 3 of dilute combustible exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine and with an SOX catalyst 6B which is provided in the exhaust gas passage 3 of the upstream of the NOX catalyst 6A and adsorbs a sulfur component contained in exhaust gas. The NOX catalyst 6A carries a metallic component which adsorbs NOX when air fuel ratio of exhaust gas is lean and desorbs NOX when concentration of oxygen contained in exhaust gas is lowered. The SOX catalyst 6B carries a metallic component which adsorbs the sulfur component when air fuel ratio of exhaust gas is lean and desorbs the sulfur component when concentration of oxygen contained in exhaust gas is lowered.
