The data recorder has a microprocessor associated with memory, an interface to a removable memory device, and an RS232 serial interface for communication with external transducers in the aircraft. This interface (7) has a shaping circuit (11) and data buffers (12). The shaping circuit accepts a variety of serial signal protocols. The different sources are handled by a multiplexer (18) controlled by a frequency divider (17) with a lock circuit (19) and counter (20).
