PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain high reliability, by a method wherein a polarization electrode surface on a side of an anode of an electric double layer capacitor is structured so as not to precipitate an organic substance. SOLUTION: An electrolyte contains 10 wt.% or more of salt in which a compound indicated by formula I or formula II is a cation component (R<1> is a hydrocarbon base or a hydrogen atom of the number of carbons 1 to 20 which may be replaced with a hydroxyl base; and R<2> , R<3> , R<4> and R<5> denote hydrocarbon bases of carbons 1 to 10 which may each have a hydroxyl base, an amino base, a nitro base, a cyano base, a carboxyl base, an ether base, or an aldehyde base. Any or all of R<1> , R<2> , R<3> , R<4> and R<5> are coupled to each other to form a ring.). An electrolyte anion composed of salt is a species or more among ClO4 <-> , BF4 <-> , PF6 <-> , AsF6 <-> , SbF6 <-> , a perfluoro alkane sulfonic acid ion, a perchloro alkane sulfonic acid ion, a perfluoro alkane carboxylic acid ion, a perchloro alkane carboxylic acid ion or the like, and a melting point of salt is 100 deg.C or less. |
