Aircraft tail assemblies are of various heights and shapes, and platforms such as the "Giraffe" occupy much floor space and allow limited access from any one position. The rectangular base (1), mounted on wheels (5), has a towbar (6) and steadying jacks (4). The square section steel pillar is mounted on the platform, with stiffening webs (7). A sleeve (3) fits over the column and supports light weight platforms (8,9) on arms (17) and is adjusted for height by a hydraulic or screw jack (10). An adjustable ladder (12) and a fixed ladders (13) connect the platforms. Extensions (11) allow access to e.g. a third tail=mounted engine projecting ahead of the other two. Any special=purpose cut=out is covered by a removable plate (18). |
