PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality image in which the dot can be miniaturized while suppressing banding by setting and controlling carriage of a recording medium after completion of scanning based on the print resolution and the number of nozzles. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises an ink jet print head having N nozzles arranged in the carrying direction at an interval k times of the print resolution P, means for moving the ink jet print head in the breadthwiase direction of a recording medium, and print data control means performing complementary recording by scanning a line to be formed in the breadthwiase direction of the recording medium m times (m is an integer of 2 or more) wherein the recording medium is carried, after completion of scanning, by an amount N/ m×P±1/L×P (N/m is an integer, L is an integer of 2 or more) every k times of scanning. The print head 1 jets an ink droplet to a specified position on the recording medium 10 according to a print data received from a print data control circuit 11.
