PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an immersion nozzle for continuously casting a thin and wide cast slab which can stably cast the cast slab having good quality. SOLUTION: This immersion nozzle is formed as a flat-state barrel part 5 through a neck part 4 followed to almost cylindrical head part 3, and a molten metal flowing passage 2 in the neck part 4 is formed as a breadening state in the direction toward the barrel part 5 and an angleθformed between the inner walls 11, 11 of the short sides, is 70-90 deg. and the sectional areas of the molten metal flowing passages 2 at the head part 3, neck part 4 and barrel part 5 are regulated to 95-105% of the opening hole area at the inlet side of the molten metal of the head part 3. By this constitution, the filling stream of the molten metal in the immersion nozzle 1 is secured and the drift is prevented, and the sticking of non-metallic inclusion on the inner wall of the nozzle and the local erosion in the inner wall of the nozzle are prevented, and the cast slab having good quality can stably be cast.
