PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject additive being a compound having a specific structure, having rust preventive properties and mildewproofing properties and capable of manifesting excellent compounding stability. SOLUTION: This additive is a compound of the formula (R<1> to R<5> are each a hydroxyalkyl, preferably a 2-3C hydroxyalkyl; R<6> and R<7> are each an alkylene, preferably 2-3C alkylene; (m) is 0 or a number of >=1). The compound of the formula is obtained by adding an alkylene oxide such as ethylene oxide and propylene oxide to a (poly)alkylenepolyamine such as ethylenediamine, propylenediamine, and diethylenetriamine. The additive is formulated with a water-soluble lubricant or a water-dispersible lubricant, and manifests rust prevention activities or mildewproofing activities. The water soluble lubricant or the water-dispersible lubricant to which the additive is formulated is preferably used as a metalworking oil, for example, the one used when cutting processing and grinding processing, etc., are carried out. |
