PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure both a large heat generation quantity and durability by setting a coefficient of thermal expansion of a structural member of a heat generation chamber larger than that of a rotor in a housing. SOLUTION: A front plate 2 and a rear plate 3 forming a heat generation chamber 6 is formed of aluminum dicast having a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of 2.10×10<-5> (1/K). A rotor 11 is formed of a medium carbon steel having a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of 1.17×10<-5> (1/K). After starting a viscous heater, when heat is generated in the silicon oil by continuous operation and temperature rises, since a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the front plate 2 and the rear plate 3 is larger than that of the rotor 11, the front plate 2 and the rear plate 3 are expanded by heat larger than the rotor 11. In this viscous heater with this structure, a liquid tight space is not reduced, and interference and abrasion is not generated between the front plate 2, the rear plate 3 and the rotor 11, and both of calorific value and durability are secured.
