FIELD: biology, microbiology, agriculture. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of preparing plants of new type able to nitrogen-fixing in leaves. Method involves inoculation of plant organ with bacterium of genus Azotobacter or Azomonas, or Beijerinckia, or Derxia under in vitro conditions. Treated plant is cultured in cultural medium containing nitrogen and carbon source that is utilized by plant cells only but not bacteria and taken at amount 10 g/l, not less, preferably, at amount 20-40 g/l. It is advisable to use bacteria as vegetative cells or cysts, or bacterium forms that have no cellular walls being partially or completely. In the latter case carbon as a basic source is added at concentration 0.35-0.75 M. In treatment of plants with bacterium of genus Azotobacter or Azomonas calcium carbonate (0.5 g/l, not above) or calcium chloride (0.2 g/l, not above) is added to medium additionally.
