Uses several developer containers and system for detecting lack of developer, so that essential printing is not interrupted. The developer feed system contains in each of several developer containers fixed to the printer a developer device for image formation. The system include: - an insertion part for the containers (1) in the feed system so that they are fixed to the feed system. The insertion part has at least two insertion inputs; - a temporary retaining part for each of the containers (P) so that an opening of each of the containers is put into a preset position; - an opening and closing device for the opening of each of the containers held by the retaining part; - a developer depositing section (4) designed to receive and to deposit the developer coming from each of the retained containers; - a developer distributor fitted in the section (4) which mixes the developer with air and sends it to the image former; - a device which senses imminent lack of developer.
