The braking system brakes the wheels of the vehicle independently of one another. The wheels are braked in response to operation of the brake pedal via first and second. electrically controlled brake actuators (12,6) contained in. separate braking circuits (10,28). A generator (2) is coupled to a current circuit (7) containing a battery (8), a number of electrical loads (14) and the brake actuators (12) of the first braking circuit (10) and to a charging device (22) for a second current circuit (25) containing a second battery (24) and the brake actuators (26) of the second braking circuit.
