PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the measuring state of a plurality of LEDs by selecting unadjacent LEDs continuously through a selecting/switching means thereby distributing the heating part. SOLUTION: A sample of cell 1a is irradiated with light from a light source, i.e., an LED 11, and the quantity of transmitted light is detected by a photodiode PD 21 in order to measure the absorbance of the sample. The cells 1a are arranged in a matrix of 4×4 on the upper surface of a specimen, i.e., a transparent glass plate 1, and 16 sets of upper and lower LEDs 11, 21 are provided in combination therewith. An address register 31 of a driver (selecting/switching means) transfers row and column addresses delivered from a controller 40 to respective drive circuits 32, 33, 34 and 35. The driver 30 selects nonadjacent LEDs 11 continuously at the time of sequential selection. Since the adjacent LEDs 11 are not driven continuously and immediately, the heating part is distributed and the measuring state is stabilized.
