Representation of organ systems during control and guidance of instruments such as guide wires, probes, catheters and endoscopes comprises bringing the bodily region to be displayed into a magnetic field. The instrument used has a tip coated ferromagnetically and by variation of magnetic field characteristics e.g. the field strength, the position of the instrument is influenced indirectly. The instrument is introduced into the organ system under investigation, either by injection or direct introduction.
