<p>A cationic electrodeposition coating composition containing bismuth lactate derived from lactic acid containing at least 80 % by weight of p-lactic acid or bismuth methoxyacetate dissolved in an aqueous medium. It is capable of forming coating films having excellent anticorrosive and finishing properties even though they are free of lead compounds.</p>
