The appts. has a housing (12). The side nearest the patient (5) has an acute angle (alpha) in which a light screen (3) is arranged behind a breast locating surface (6). The light beam is deflected by about 90 degrees and, with the aid of a lens, (8) an image of the breast is formed on a solid state detector (4). The latter is arranged on the side of the housing (12) furthest from the patient. To deflect the optical image from the light screen (3) a mirror (7) is located at an acute angle (alpha) on the patient side. The distance between the mirror and the locating surface should be in the region of several mm to a few cm.
