Drive system for indexing offset machine tool holder

The drive system has a spindle (2) located in a fixed head (4) and drives a cross shaft to the offset tool. The offset head pivots about the spindle axis (A), and during machining is locked to the fixed head by a spring-loaded actuator (5). The actuator can be moved axially against the spring load by pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical systems. The actuator releases the lock, disengaged the cross shaft drive gears (11,12), and couple the offset head to the spindle, so that the spindle can turn offset head to a new position. On releasing the actuator, the cross shaft drive is re-engaged and the offset head is locked to the fixed head.
