An angioplasty stent comprises a body (1) with a wall (2) having a generally tubular envelope with openings, the stent being expandable, in use, from a radially contracted condition to a radially expanded condition. The configuration with openings is substantially uniform except for at least one opening (3) which has substantially larger dimensions than the remaining openings provided in the wall. The opening (3) extends over only a portion of the angular extent of the body (1) in the respective longitudinal portion of the body (2) of the stent. Marker means (4) are provided for detecting the angular position of the stent (1) at the implant site.
