Seismic excitation source for geological exploration comprising a loud-speaker connected to a control unit and means of acoustic coupling between the loud-speaker and the geological structure to be explored. This coupling is a fluid contact with the loud-speaker membrane and the geological structure, or a container containing such a fluid. Surveying equipment containing such a source A container confines the fluid (liquid or gas) with the loud-speaker sealed around its edge to form a division between front and back chambers, and the front chamber has an opening in contact with the geological structure, with the diameter of the opening the same as or greater than that of the loud-speaker membrane. The distance between the membrane and the opening is less than the diameter of the membrane. The tube forming the container is metal or plastic. The loud-speaker has a nominal power of more than 400W, preferably more than 600W, and operates at between 120 and 300Hz. The source can be moved to carry out a seismic survey, or can be buried to carry out long-term surveillance.
