The method involves using a transmitter (14) fixed into the vehicle which generates a search signal. A device (34) mounted on the release device (22) generates a signal in response to the search signal. The release component can be located by exchanging data between at least one transmitter/receiver fixed in the vehicle and the transponder (28). A display device (20,34) inside the vehicle indicates the position of the release component according to the derived position information.
