PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detector improved in response by reducing the time required for correlation operation without degrading a focus detection precision. SOLUTION: This detector for forming a pair of object images and outputting information of a focus adjustment by measuring a relative space between them is provided with a photo-electric conversion means 2 for receiving the part of object images and outputting object image signals corresponding to them, an arithmetic operation means for executing an operation of correlation between the object image signals by using a predetermined parameter, a detection means 4 for monitoring a progress in the above operation of correlation and detects a variation in the result of the correlation operation corresponding to the above parameter, and a parameter changing means 6 for changing the above parameter according to the variation detected by the above detection means 4. Then the arithmetic operation means 3 changes the above operation parameter in response to an instruction for a change from the parameter changing means 6. |
