MOVING IMAGE CODING METHOD AND DECODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize quality deterioration due to an updated sprite image. SOLUTION: An increasing magnification to increase the number of sample points in the case of recording a coded/decoded image to a sprite image memory is determined (step 101). An initial image for coding is coded and decoded, the number of sample points is increased by the increasing magnification and the result is stored in the sprite image memory (steps 102-104). Then a motion between the frame image to be coded and the succeeding frame image to be coded is detected, the motion is corrected and the sprite image is corrected by the motion (steps 105-107). The frame image to be coded is coded by using the sprite image as a prediction reference image to generate the decoded image and the number of sample points of the decoded image is increased by the increasing magnification and appended to the sprite image memory (steps 108-110).
