The anti-theft lock (10) has a locking fork (38) which moves perpendicular to the direction of motion of the bolt (16) that locks the steering column. The locking fork moves between a position clear of the bolt to a position engaging holes (16) in the bolt, preventing movement. The bolt is displaced by an electric motor (18). The fork is displaced by an auxiliary electric motor (48).
