PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control display colors by electric fields by using a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal compsn. 3 comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer, electrolyte and water-based solvent is sealed between an pair of electrodes 1, 2. The display colors are controlled by applying electric fields. The liquid crystal compsn. 3 consists of a transparent soln. of a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer (e.g. cellulose deriv. such as hydroxyalkylcellulose), an electrolyte (e.g. water-soluble inorg. salt) and a water-based solvent (water-based solvent having 80 to 100 wt.% water content). |
