The Marangoni effect is used to measure the coefficient of the apparent diffusion of a tenside in a liquid, where the tenside is present in an initial moving layer in contact with air on at least one thicker layer, in a stack. The layer with the tenside is disturbed which, at a point in time (t), creates a Marangoni effect and a variation in the optical density in the disturbed zone. The coefficient of the apparent diffusion is given by the equation Dapp= delta <2>/t, where delta is the diffusion thickness and t the time for an optical density change in the disturbed zone.
