Acylaminoalkyl-carbonate or -thiocarbonate derivatives of formula U-NH-A-W-C(Y)-ZR5 (I) are new. U = substituted acyl of formula Ra-CO-O-CRcRd-CO- (a), RaCO-NRb-CRcRd-CO (b), Rn-CO-CHR'a-NH-CHRc-CO- (c) or of formula (d); A = -CR1R2-CR3R4- or -CR1R2-CR3R4-CR6R7-; Rn = OH, OR, SR or NRR'; W,Z = O, S or substituted imino; Y = O or S; R1-R4, R6, R7,Ra-Rh,R,R',R'a = H; or (all optionally substituted) alkyl, allyl, vinyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclyl, heteroaryl or aryl; or two of R1-R4, R6, R7 (separated by at most 2C) complete a ring system comprising 1-10 aryl or cycloalkyl rings (optionally containing heteroatoms); Rb may also be NR1R2 or an O-protected 1-amino-carbohydrate residue. R5 = (all optionally substituted) alkyl, allyl, vinyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclyl, heteroaryl or aryl; Also claimed is a method for cleaving compounds (I), involving contacting (I; R5 other than aromatic group) with a base or contacting (I; R5 = aromatic group) with a base and a nucleophile of formula HRn.
