An insertion sleeve (12) for an ultrasound catheter (10) is provided with a balloon. The ultrasound catheter (10) can be inserted into the bronchial system through a duct located inside the balloon-armed insertion sleeve (12), filled with a contact gel and provided at the proximal and distal ends with a gasket (sluice). At the examination site, the balloon (16) is filled with water through a second working duct (14) and a circular contact surface with the bronchial wall is thus established, allowing a sonographic representation to be obtained which was previously not possible.
